monthly maintenance;
The following are to be carried out the first working day of every month.
1. verify critical updates have been installed
Type the Windows Update website's URL into the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer (the 64-bit version can not view the website). The URL is http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/.
Click on the Express button. Windows will then check the system for the latest updates and decide whether you require them or not. Then it will show you any recommended updates - critical or optional software and hardware ones.
If any, check the box next to the update and press Install now. Windows will then download and install the updates.
2. create a restore point
Open System Restore... Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and select System Restore from the list.
Select the Create a restore point radio and click the Next button. This next page will ask you to name the restore point. Type in the current month and year and PSD001. Then click Next. A system restore point will then be created.
3. check "consumables" supply
Check for an adequate on-hand supply of "consumables;" blank CDRs, DVDs, ink, paper, etc... This will help prevent those "I'm out of ink and shops are closed!" panics.
