making a purchase (part 1)

logging in...

Firstly I logged into my mother's existing account. This was done by clicking on the log in button at the top-right of the page. It then took me to a secure socket layer server, using 128 bit high-grade encryption.

Page Info

I checked this by using my browsers 'Page Info' tool. To the left is a snapshot of what it told me about the page's security. Ebuyer.com has a valid and authentic security certificate so I can trust them implicitly. A sensible ICT user should always check a site's certificate before entering any sensitive information.

Cookies required

The page also told me that I needed cookies to be enabled in my browser settings. This is so the site could recognise me by reading the cookie file everytime I viewed a page. This is another technique used by Ebuyer to authenicate my identity.

I then entered my mother's username, email and account password. I also checked the 'Remember me' box, so everytime I visit the site it will securely log me in automatically. I was then taken to my account homepage. In it their are many options, users are able to personalise both their experience of shopping on Ebuyer and their account details. All in all, the log in process was easy and secure.
