eGovernment
What is eGovernance?
eGovernance is the use of ICT in providing a friendlier pro-active interface for private citizens to be involved in public affairs. It is to encourage deeper citizen involvement in the governing process. It is hoped that by strengthening the transparency of governmental affairs, and by increasing the accountability of the authorities, corruption will be restricted and the administration will be improved.
Anyone with internet access has access to information about different government departments. Directgov is the main hub for all the United Kingdom’s public services, this will be discussed on the next page.
Because of the advance in ICT, the public sector is now able to explore ways to correct market failures and encourage competition to bring the benefits of the information age to all. eGovernance’s main thrust is to empower us, the public, with greater access to information so that we together, can create a better society.
I believe that this type of online service can improve the relationship between the people and the government. It has also created entirely new ways of carrying out our social responsibilities, at election time we are now able to vote online.
