Decision making

Has decision making been affected at a personal level?

Decision making at a personal level has been affected by the advance of ICT. The decision making process has changed and processing speeds are much faster.

For example, to book a holiday, before the Information Age, would probably have required a trip to the travel agent in person, a search through many brochures, and a face to face discussion with the agent regarding the choice of holiday required and a deposit paid there and then. Then it would have been necessary to return to the travel agent to make the final payment and even a third visit to collect the tickets. Nowadays, all this can by done from the comfort of your own home using the internet in a matter of minutes and because ‘unnecessary’ expenses are required you can save hundreds of pounds.

Also nowadays, it is possible to make more informed decisions. Before purchasing anything, a person can read multiple reviews on the product they would like to buy. It may turn out that a newer version of the product they intended to purchase has just been released and has some improvements. Price comparisons can also be made on line, allowing the consumer to get the best available deal.
